Indian Spring Memories
Indian Spring Memories, 1999
138 x 112 cm/
54 x 44 in
This piece is now in the permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert
Museum in London.
This wallhanging forms part of a series of four
which represent the four seasons. It is made of crazy patchwork, embellished with
Indian and Western hand embroidery, including shishas (mirror
work), kantha quilting, braids and ribbons, glass beads, semi-precious
stones, buttons, scarabs and other found objects. It is hand-quilted. The fabrics
are mostly Indian silks (some recycled), but also include indigo-dyed cotton damask from
Guinea, velvets, hand-dyed cottons, antique lace etc.
